More of the same costs us the values we care about most. Connection, health and thriving, community and freedom get given up a little at a time, for jobs and systems that keep asking for more. The more we give them up, the more we end up in a life we are unhappy with, and that slides into depression and despair. Saving money alone does not fix it, because the loss was never only about money.
Living our values opens life up. When people step into what they really want to do, together, community grows, things start to work, people feel empowered, new networks form, they teach others, and the systems around them start to change. It is a whole new way of being and a new future, with new economies built for it. Joining with others, or as a consortium of groups, is what makes it hold, because nobody builds a new way of living alone.
Staying where we are means more of the same: giving up connection, health, community and freedom a little more each year, and handing the same life to our children.
Your group lives its values. People are connected, healthy and free, building with others, teaching what they learn, and watching the systems around them start to change.
An ETHOS carries the two things everything else rests on: a coordination framework and a decision model. A new economy cannot be built without a new coordination framework, because the structure is what enforces the rules of how value flows; without it, the flow reverts to whoever has leverage. And a new framework cannot work without a new decision model, because who holds a role, how money moves and what an agreement says are all decisions; keep the old way of deciding and the old outcomes follow.
